As Easter term draws to a close, a term of training (and not to mention exams) is set to culminate over the next four days in May Bumps. Throughout this term, the Boat Club has seen a number of results in races both on and off the Cam.
The Spring Head to Head race on the Cam saw W1 place as the third fastest W1, with an incomplete crew (as Sarah Carlotti was busy representing CUWBC at BUCS regatta, where she placed 5th in the Championship coxless 4).
In the first off-Cam race of the term, W1 and M1 headed to Bedford for the Bedford Amateur Regatta. While M1 got off to a slow start, they steadily gained on their opposition (University College, Oxford) in the College Eights category, but unfortunately ran out of distance on the 1.2km course, losing by 2/3 of a length. Meanwhile, W1 managed to win their first round by a length to University College, Oxford but lost out by a 1 and 1/4 length in the second round to the eventual winners, Emmanuel College, Cambridge.
M1 then headed off Cam again to Peterborough Regatta to compete in the Band 2 eights category. The boys comfortably won their heat against Leeds and Derby Rowing clubs over the 1km course, to make it through to the final. The boys then won their final convincingly by 9.3 seconds!
The last race before bumps saw further wins for the Boat Club, but this time back on the Cam. W1, M2 and M3 all raced in the X-Press Bumps Head, with W1 placing an impressive second in the Mays W1 division. However, the boys brought the medals home, with both M2 and M3 winning their respective divisions (Mays 3rd Division and Mays Lower Boats). Special congratulations go to David Berry (M3) who won the coxing prize for the best line around Grassy corner!
Forward to Bumps!
