Men's
1st bump Pembroke I
Following
a superb fortnight building up to Bumps Week, the guys were well fired
up to get Pembroke I on the first day. We got a good start and took
half a length off them by the motorway bridge. Settling into our rhythm
we comfortably pushed off Queens' and got two whistles on Pembroke halfway
down 1st Post Reach. Staying calm and focused we pushed on harder and
got overlap going into 1st Post Corner. The bump was inevitable and
came about halfway round the corner as our bow came to rest comfortably
on their stroke's rigger.
Tomorrow
we're chasing Christs - who later had the cheek to ask if Pembroke had
suffered equipment failure!

Women's
2nd bump Queens II
Churchill
II ladies knew that their first day would be tough with an impressive
looking LMBC III chasing them and Queens II, an unknown quantity ahead
of them. But they set off determined and made one of their best starts
so far this term gaining on Queens with every stroke. However, LMBC
were chasing hard and getting whistles for closing the gap on Churchill,
but at the same time Churchill got their 1st whistle for Queens. This
spurred Churchill on and they kept LMBC at bay around First Post and
Grassy. With a fantastic group of supporters cheering the crew on past
Grassy and an Up 2 and a Bumping 10 in the Plough reach, Churchill got
their bump!

Men's
1st row over
Rowing
over is a painful experience, all too often associated with rowing in
the top half of the 1st divisions. You get all the pain of a bumps race
but at the end you lack any feeling, it's a personal because you didn't
bump. The only positive is that you always have tomorrow.
We
already knew that the third day would be difficult and we are prepared
for it, the crew is mainly silent, each of us thinking as a unit, we
know what it is like to bump together and we want it again. Want is
too weak a word to describe it, so on Friday we'll be going all out,
no holds barred, taking no prisoners. Friday is when we show them all
exactly what we've got. And when we get out of that boat we will know
if it was enough.
