Bumps Programmes are now on sale at Porter's Lodge, JET Photographic and A.E.Clothier -£2. Go, go, go!

About Bumps

The bumps are held on the section of the River Cam between the Pike and Eel pub and Baitsbite Lock.

To get to the river by foot, cross Midsummer Common, going towards Chesterton, and walk underneath the Elizabeth Road up to the footbridge that crosses the river opposite the Green Dragon pub. Turn right, and walk up towards the Pike and Eel. This is the end of the bumps course.

The best places to watch are around Grassy Corner and at the Plough pub in Fen Ditton.

For a map of how to get to the river by foot or by car, check out the CUCBC web site and follow the links to their excellent May Bumps web page.

Programmes may be purchased at the Two Tees boathouse, on the towpath or from the P'lodge for £2. They list all the competing crews, explain how bumps works and describe the history of this crazy competition! Well worth the money if you've never seen bumps before and don't know what it's all about.

Bank Partying

If you'd like to go and watch any of the crews race you can get involved by bank partying. This involves either counting down at the start, pushing the crew out at the start or just cycling alongside shouting encouragement. If you'd like to bank party, check the Boat Club notice board to find out which crews still need people for their bank party - only 6 people are allowed to cycle alongside a crew- and then get a bank pass from the person indicated on the sign-up sheet.

If you go to watch Bumps; you are not allowed to cycle on the Tow path unless you have a bank pass. If you don't have a bank pass you can cycle to the Pike and Eel and leave your bike there and walk to the top of the river and Grassy corner (approx. 1 mile) or you can cycle on the road to Grassy corner and park your bike there.

Men's 3rd -Got Blades!

Lying strewn in their dust are Caius III, CCAT II, Kings II and Jesus IV.

They bumped before the Motorway Bridge every day - Well done guys!

Men's 1st Re-row

Men's 1st had to rerow their Friday race after some interesting coxing caused Queen's I to crash. Some quite wierd decisions were made by the powers that be and a re-row was ordered. For pictures of the incident and for an explanation of the controversy (there never should have been a re-row, Churchill Men's 1st should not have got spoons) check out Dave Sampson's web site. Sadly Men's 1st were bumped in the re-row and the result stands.
